
What We Do
Peer Professionals of California is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organization that provides services to communities in need. Our services address the justice involved, peer support, and community health needs throughout San Diego County.
Justice Involved Population
Lived Experience Experts provide peer support services to the Justice Involved population. Lived Experience Experts are formerly incarcerated Peer Support Specialists who work with individuals after release. They guide justice involved individuals through the process of re-entry and the services available to them. Our focus is assisting our justice involved population re-enter the community.

Peer Support Specialists
Peer Support Specialist lead activities and coaching to encourage and support beneficiaries to participate in behavioral health treatment. Engagement may include supporting beneficiaries in their transitions between levels of care and supporting beneficiaries in developing their own recovery goals and processes. Assists individuals in their goal development. Develops formal and informal supports. Serves as a mentor, facilitator, or advocate to help improve the health of a person with behavioral, emotional, or co-occurring disorders.

Community Health Workers
CHWs serve many roles. They support member engagement in chronic disease management, conduct outreach to people with complex needs, and facilitate improved birth outcomes, among many other diverse areas of focus. CHWs offer interpretation and translation services, provide culturally appropriate health education and information, help people get the care they need, give informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors, advocate for individual and community health needs, and provide some direct services such as first aid and blood pressure screening.
